New Teaching Gig

I have been getting so many questions regarding my new teaching gig, so I decided to incorporate a few details into this post.

If you know me or have been following me for awhile, you know that I have a passion for education. Since taking a break from the classroom, I have missed teaching. Being able to stay home with my girls has been the greatest blessing and something that I will never regret. However, it took me awhile to embrace where I wasn’t professionally and realize that it will all come in due time, but for right now this is where it’s at and I’m happy.

Selena loves to learn and Sophia is such a good baby that I was able to start focusing some of my energy into creating little lessons for Selena. #SRGTeachingTuesdays When I would do the small projects with Selena, it felt like I relit a fire within myself. Then something amazing happened; a friend of mine (hey Sarah <3) tagged me in a post on Facebook.

I had just put the girls down for their naps and was able to check out the site which said you can teach English online to children in China with the lessons provided for you and make up to $22/hour without having to leave your house. You make your schedule and there is no minimum or maximum hourly requirements. With zero hesitation, I input my information and began researching the company.

VIPKID is an online ESL platform to Chinese students ages 5-12. According to the VIPKID website, “The curriculum is based on the U.S. Common Core State Standards and uses a flipped-classroom approach to foster creativity and critical thinking skills.” The company has some well-known investors including KOBE BRYANT. If I wasn’t sold on the company yet, seeing that he not only invested but advises the creator of VIPKID intrigued me.

I started the lengthy hiring process in mid June and have already taught over 50 students. It can be hard at times with the hours & language barrier but their eagerness and little smiles make me want to do everything possible to make sure they succeed.

This job has been a Godsend on so many levels. I am so happy for the opportunity to teach again- it feels so good for my soul! The pay is great as well, contributing financially on a consistent basis has been a goal of mine.

If you have any interest at all, send me a message. I’d love to answer any questions you may have and help you land this job. My mentor Gabby was such a great help through this process and I couldn't have done it without her. It’s quite a process but if you want it, you’ll get it!

Much love to my family and friends for their encouragement + support- I appreciate you!
