Self-Care: Balanced, Vibrant and Free of Worry

Hello friends— 

It has been quite some time since I’ve been able to sit and write. I’ve been working hard these past couple of months and began to equate free-time with work time. When I first started working for VIPKid, I jumped in wholeheartedly. One of my new year’s resolutions was to find balance. I guess I’ve come to the conclusion that I am probably never going to achieve perfect balance. All I can do is try to take care of my responsibilities with a happy and grateful heart, while making sure I am taking care of myself.

Since I work on Beijing time, my sleep schedule got a little out of wack. Add pulling all nighters on the weekends to waking up each day at 3am and you have a recipe for a very tired and burnt out human. I’ll admit, I let money be more of my motivation for sleep deprivation more than it was for the love of teaching. It had been 2 years since I had a job and making money again felt so good. 

- Que the Burnout –

After a minor breakdown, I played with my schedule a bit, stopped the all nighters (ok maybe I did 1-2) and made sure that I scheduled days off, but I was still not feeling fulfilled. I had to take some time to myself to process what it was that I needed as an individual and what my family needed from me. I made the effort to care for myself physically, spiritually, mentally/emotionally while leaning on the people I love for support and guidance. This is a daily practice that I still fall short of sometimes. Instead of wondering what I can do to feel better, I made a bulleted list of specifics to help me.

To know me is to know a person who is obsessed with organization, notes and highlighters. I created a small outline that focuses on 5 areas of self-care complete with examples as a checklist for achieving each part. I hope this serves you well.
